Rolling Fork will rise

Rolling Fork, Mississippi – a charming and resilient town located in the heart of the Mississippi Delta. Known for its rich cultural heritage, picturesque landscapes, and warm, welcoming community, Rolling Fork is a place where tradition and progress come together to create a unique and thriving environment.

Founded in the mid-1800s, Rolling Fork has deep agricultural roots, with farming and agriculture continuing to be central to the town's economy. With its prime location along the banks of the Sunflower River, the town has long been known for its scenic beauty and tranquil surroundings, making it a great place to live, work, and visit.

Rolling Fork’s history is deeply intertwined with the Mississippi Delta's music legacy, particularly blues, with the area being a hub for artists who shaped the genre. The town has maintained its Southern charm while embracing modern growth, making it a vibrant community with a sense of pride in its past and optimism for its future.

On March 24, 2023, Rolling Fork, Mississippi, experienced a devastating EF-4 tornado that left a profound impact on the town and its residents. The tornado, with wind speeds reaching up to 195 mph, tore through the community, resulting in significant destruction and loss.

Impact on Rolling Fork

The tornado struck shortly after 8:00 p.m. CDT, catching many residents off guard. Despite a tornado emergency being issued shortly before the storm entered the town, some residents reported not receiving adequate warnings due to power outages and siren failures. The storm caused extensive damage, with over 78% of Rolling Fork and 96% of nearby Silver City sustaining some level of destruction. Approximately 300 homes in Rolling Fork were damaged, and critical infrastructure, including the local hospital, police department, and city hall, was severely affected.

In the aftermath, federal and state officials mobilized to provide assistance. President Joe Biden declared a federal emergency, and Governor Tate Reeves issued a state of emergency, facilitating the allocation of resources for recovery. Organizations like Rolling Fork Rising played a pivotal role in the recovery process, helping displaced residents secure housing and supporting the rebuilding of homes.

As we continue to rebuild, we invite you to experience the warmth and hospitality of Rolling Fork, where our roots run deep, and our future is as bright as ever.
